"Wow!" Books

I usually have two or three books going at a time, but I never love them all equally. This month I've had the pleasant surprise of finding myself in this dilemma. Since I am enjoying them so much, WHICH one do I pick up in the evening?

First, I'm reading Silence by Shusaku Endo which is a fictional account of a Catholic priest who sneaks into Japan in the 1600's when Christians are being persecuted.

The second book is Magic by the Lake by Edward Eager. This book written for older children is hilariously fun and imaginative.

And the third is an audiobook, The White Company by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Hooray for damsels in distress and the knights who save them! Beautifully written and narrated.

I love having this dilemma. :) It's so much better than the alternative! Both Silence and Magic by the Lake sound good to me.

Oh my goodness, I know and love two out of those three. Silence is Christianity in a nutshell and The White Company is simply splendid. How wonderful for you! I will have to look for that third book for myself.

I loved, loved, LOVED "Silence". Those others sound wonderful too, in a different way!

What a wonderful dilemma, Hope! I remember reading The White Company (an older gentleman in our church pretty much forced me to...and I'm glad he did!); I have Silence on my list to read this year (just got bumped up near the top); and I've never heard of Magic by the Lake, but I will search it out.

Happy reading, my reading friend!

I can see that visiting this blog is going to result in a long "Must read" list, The White Company and Silence being new to me. Edgar Eager I know well, loved to read as child and occasionally revisit now. His "Half Magic" is on my bedside bookshelf.

Edgar Eager's stories are such fun. I remember them from my childhood days and this year I found Half Magic at the One Dollar Bookstore and enjoyed it tremendously.

It's wonderful when the books we pick up to read all turn out to be so entertaining, isn't it. It can often go the other way!
