R.I.P. NIV
In recent years controversy has been brewing over the New International Version of the Bible. The 1984 version has been one of the most-loved and most-used of all Bible versions, but a few years ago the editorial staff made some decisions that produced a newer version that many find unacceptable. The original version is no longer in print, nor is it available online as it used to be (at biblegateway.com). Cripplegate has a good article about it called "Farewell, NIV" if you want to read more.
My NIV (1984) is still in pretty good shape so I won't be switching to another version just yet. What about you? Have you switched? Do you have a recommendation for a good, solid translation?
My favorite translation is the ESV. Though I don't really have *just one* favorite.
ReplyDeleteI have a 1978 NIV and a KJV given to me in 1966. I read the NIV when I want to read several pages as story, but I read my KJV for the Psalms and Proverbs and when I feel nostalgic for my childhood. The poetry and cadence of the KJV are just so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI still use my NIV 1984 edition and noticed that Biblegateway no longer offers that edition on their website.
ReplyDeleteI think I will go hunt down some used copies before they go expensive or extinct.
